CODE RED for gender justice! is a feminist activist collective of Caribbean women, men and everyone else between or beyond the binary. We  recognise everyone’s right to a good life.

Our activities aim to bring a plurality of critical feminist voices to everything from politics and economics to gender and sexualities in our global world.

Our methods are an innovative mix of the traditional and creative.  In 2009 we founded the annual New Perspectives Graduate Symposium series to nurture emerging feminist scholars and activists from the Caribbean.  We’ve even sponsored a young calypsonian from Barbados, providing both the (feminist!) lyrics and musical arrangement for her participation in the nation’s biggest festival! We are a key online source for daily updates and aggregation of Caribbean news and links related to feminist, gender and sexuality issues (via our facebook page).

Our roots are as a student organisation at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, Barbados. Graduate students of the Institute for Gender & Development Studies: Nita Barrow Unit conceptualised CODE RED as a means of finding our own space within Caribbean feminism. We now boast a regional and international reach.

We are making history!  In May 2012 CODE RED hosted CatchAFyah the region’s first ever young feminist meet-up aimed at supporting a new generation of Caribbean feminist activists and deepening regional collaboration.
